Our Mission

The mission of Laurel Shelter, Inc. is to empower victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing victim services and to prevent violence by increasing awareness of the impact these victimizations have on all members of the community.

 

Our History

In 1997, Laurel Shelter, Inc. opened to provide shelter and support services for domestic violence victims. In 1999 services to victims of sexual assault and/or abuse were added and Laurel Shelter, Inc. opened a Sexual Assault crisis center in the Edgehill Town Center. Thanks to generous donations, Laurel Shelter, Inc. was able to open the Thrift Store in 2003.

 

Our Goal

We are dedicated to assisting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. We are also committed to reducing incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities. To achieve our goals, Laurel Shelter, Inc. offers shelter, advocacy, education and support to survivors, legal support, and community education to foster awareness and identification of victims.

Our Services

Emergency shelter

LSI provides shelter for DV/SA victims including women and children (boys up to 17 years old). Referrals made for men age 18 and older.

24 Hour Crisis Hotline

Need to talk? Need help? Don't know where to turn to? Call LSI anytime for assistance.

Advocacy

LSI offers legal advocacy including court accompaniment and legal aid referrals) and client advocacy.

Crisis Intervention/ Safety Planning

LSI strives to provide a safety net for those in need during crisis. We offer safety planning for victims to leave their situations in the best way possible.

Outreach Services

Clients from the community not living in the shelter can still still receive services through our outreach office for DV and SA services.

Emergency Transport

Transportation is provided to victims to allow them to come to the shelter and become a part of a safe environment.

Support Groups

Trama recovery group is held weekly at LSI Outreach Office on Wednesdays at 6pm.

Children's Services

Services are provided for children in the shelter to help them adjust to a new environment. Children's activities are planned weekly by the child advocate.

Referrals

Referrals are made for counseling, legal assistance, and for various needs of our clients.
